In the Amazon Basin - an Overview

Overview of our travel experiences in the Amazon basin:

Three and a half weeks we spent in the Amazon basin, every adventure has its own page:
First the well-maintained lodge on Lake Sandoval: here we are guidet through a leader with a university degree.  He leads us gently into the amazing world of animals, introducing us to the "green hell" and their dangers and we enjoy the magnificent lake, the abundance of wildlife and a piece of primary rain forest:

On the other hand, a Peruvian guide of indigenous descent, who has the jungle in his blood. He introduces us to the Tambopata region guided by his instincts. And he can tell us about the creation myths of the Amazonian Indians. Here we experience the rain forest differently: as a kind of "supermarket" in which much is edible, and the Inhabitants experience its ground as a mother of one's life, which is good and nursing - a peaceful place of living well-being that has everything you need for your existence.

From out Pucallpa we embark with a general cargo vessel and several hundred other people on the Rio Ucayali - the most important and longest tributaries of the Amazon. The Lonely Planet says, the journey takes 3 days. The ship's crew allegedly sold us the trip with 5 days. - 10 days we are finally on the move due to shallow waters in the dry season: India-tested as we are, that's the hardest experience to date, although enormously inspiring.

In Iquitos we pay a visit to the market - this site should only be visited from people with strong stomachs ... and we visit a butterfly farm

Leticia and Tabatinga are the endpoints of our jungle tour and keep in their apparent peacefulness some shocks in store for us. From Leticia we fly back home through Bogota.
